Estela Semeco headshot.jpg

Estela is a first generation Venezuelan-American artist and illustrator who lives and works in Atlanta, Georgia. She earned a Bachelor of Art degree in Studio Art at Georgia State University in 2009. Since then, she has exhibited her work across Atlanta and as far as Seyðisfjörður, Iceland. In 2016, she expanded into collaborative performance work that explored race identity and helped bring awareness to domestic violence in Jessica Caldas’ Love/d & Sex/ed and 3everyday.

In the fall of 2017, Estela partnered up with Yoon Nam to create an interactive, reading-room installation entitled, Note To Self, that allowed the audience to rummage through their balled up illustrations and writings. Last year she presented her fourth solo exhibition entitled, Nothing Without Joy at Hi-Lo Press & Gallery. The themes in Estela’s work can range from whimsical illustrations to more serious commentary on popular culture and its direct ties to social issues. You can find her walking around the city picking flowers, confronting street harassment, and petting stray cats.
